PICK UP WHERE WE LEFT OFF
ABOUT THE RECORD
Pick Up Where We Left Off will be David San Clair’s second E.P release following its predecessor ‘Anything Goes’, which was released back in August 2022.
This new record will also be San Clair’s 14th Studio release. Recorded and produced by Irish Producer ‘Daniel de Burca’ residing from ‘JeJune Studios’ in Drogheda, Louth. The record features four brand new tracks titled ‘Pick Up Where We Left Off’, ‘Days of The Week’, ‘Round The Bend’ and ‘Out The Window’.
Fans should expect a very energetic and heavier sound from San Clair and his band, which makes 2025 a brilliant year for the Irish artist.

Pick Up Where We Left Off looks at me getting back into releasing and performing in this image that I’ve created. Working with my partner, trying to find ways to help each other navigate through life together, while still being able to achieve our individual goals.

This song tells a story of how I’m trying to find peace in the hectic schedule of life. Learning to trust myself and decision making, along with easing the mental struggles I face on a day-to-day basis.
Understanding that to get the life I want to live, I must work hard for each moment

This track truly highlights my feelings during the change of adolescence to adulthood, what I’ve lost, gained and learned during my journey of life so far. The grungiest song on the record, but also the most promising and hopeful theme to accompany the sound.
-
A song that travels back and fourth through time. Coping with the realisation that I’m not a kid anymore, and learning that trying to change or stay in the past, doesn’t benefit anyone.

Writing this record came together quite quickly. In the midst of writing and recording multitudes of songs for future releases, four tracks came out from the noise to present themselves as a potential new record.
Like any writer, inspiration comes and goes, ideas wander, and styles change.
I’ve always had definitive folk and bluegrass influences (Fleetwood Mac, Jake Bugg, Pinegrove), but this record shows the addition of indie, rock and pop melodies.
I made a personal decision to listen to more albums outside of my listening comfort zone, in order to pursue a different approach to my writing. Through my findings, I explored the music of MK.Gee, Alex G, MJ Lenderman and Radiohead.
This new wave of listening brought me so much writing inpisration, I was luckily left spoilt for choice. Introductions of Electric guitar and heavier sounding-effects made way to compliment this record.
Lyrically, the songs explore themes of resolution, anxiety, hope, confusion and passion. I’m a story based-writer, so a lot of the imagery I create can be drawn from outside influences from different media that I’ve consumed.

I recorded this record with Daniel de Burca in JeJune Studios in Drogheda, Louth. Recording was done in late 2024.
My band consisting of Cam Teehan, Josh Hackett & Callum Wall were amongst the members who helped cultivate and finish this exciting project.
Before each tracking day, Daniel sat down with us to discuss the instrumentation for each track, the vibe we wanted to create, along with understanding what we could possibly add to each song to elevate them.
I came in with the demo’d versions of the songs, all rough and ready to be mapped out clearly once we started working in the studio.
All songs consist of Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals, but the added instrumentation that gives the record its cohesive distinctive sound was found throughout days of recording. The use of Synthesisers, Brass, String and other programmed elements helped us in discovering the best possible outcome for the songs.
The main agreement between everyone was to serve the songs, that no idea was a bad idea. We tried everything, I let the band and Daniel add their creative input. It was amazing to see what was created from an initial idea and song that I’ve written in my small studio at my home.
